Warm and Cool Colors w/ 1st Grade

I used the sun and the moon to help the kids remember what colors are warm and which ones are cool. We also identified other common warm or cool colored things to help them understand the difference. I really like the way these turned out. The contrast of color gives them a nice feel.

Linear Perspective & Hex Signs w/ 5th Grade

This assignment introduced the 5th graders to linear perspective - creating the illusion of depth on a flat piece of paper.

These hex signs, Dutch in origination, help to teach the kids about symmetry in art.

The Pride and Joy of Art Enrichment

My biggest goal for the Art Enrichment students this year was to teach them how to use the brand new potter's wheel that we purchased. I first learned this skill in college and found it to be very difficult but very fun. I was a little nervous about how well the kids could do but they far exceeded my expectations! As you can see I taught them to be nice and steady and to let the wheel do the work for them. Hopefully we will be able to glaze these beautful bowls after SOL's.

Second Grade Dragons

The kids imaginations were sparked with this assignment and the resutls were great! It was difficult at first teaching them how to construct it without it falling apart but they got the hang of it :)

Spring Time with Kindergarten!

The kids really enjoyed putting together these Easter bunnies and decorating them. One student even gave her bunnie a carrot. The Kindergarten teachers liked these so much they decided to do a writing with them and display them in the hallways. Lately, kindergarten work has been very focused on nature and spring. Other works have included birds, trees, and flowers (something speical for Mother's Day... you will have to wait and see!)
